One year Kidney Anniversary Update

Today marks my first anniversary for my deceased donor kidney transplant!  So far things have been going good.  The freedom of not heading to dialysis three afternoons per week has been great.  Recovery was easy and I’m still as healthy as I was pre transplant.

There are some things to worry about, but I still hope I’m looking at a good 20+ years with this kidney.  The average lifespan of a kidney transplant is about 15 years.

The kidney function of the transplant settled down in the range of stage 3 kidney failure, at stage 4 I can be listed on the transplant list again and stage 5 is dialysis. Overall it feels that the new kidney will soldier on but not let me forget about it.

I had my Allosure test blood drawn on Wednesday the 25th and my nephrologist PA emailed on Monday the 30th “I wanted to let you know I just received your Allosure score and it’s “<0.19%”.  This result expresses a very stable transplant and low probability of rejection!“.

So thats very good news!  I’ll still need to find a cause of the inflammation that the labs so but its great to not have to worry about the kidney at this point.

I was in Alaska last week so didn’t try to download the results until today but their website uses a depreciated reCaptcha service so I could not verify my account but it thats not very urgent. (fixed post update) I’ll see what is there and maybe consider uploading a copy with my personal information removed so you all can see what it looks like.  At a minimum I should be able to get a copy on Wednesday at my next visit.

Here are the results with out the header data regarding my name, doctor, dates etc..

The following data fields on the Results Details page are intentionally left empty as they are not applicable to AlloSure testing:

So the test results don’t give more than what my doctor emailed.  But I was told that a good no Abnormal result test is valid and good, where a to Abnormal result test doesn’t for sure mean rejection – so I’m ok with this no Abnormal result.

On Thursday I head in for my parathyroid surgery where they probably will remove three of the four glands.  With the goal of getting my calcium into normal range, its still just a bit into the high range.  I’m scheduled at 7:30 am, they said I’d need to stay over night but hopefully its so early that I can get out that night.
